DVB-S is the original Digital Video Broadcasting forward error coding and modulation standard for satellite television and dates from 1995. It is used via satellites serving every continent of the world. DVB-S is used in both MCPC and SCPC modes for broadcast network feeds, as well as for direct broadcast satellite services like Sky TV (UK) via Astra in Europe, Dish Network in the U.S., and Bell ExpressVu in Canada. The transport stream delivered by DVB-S is mandated as MPEG-2.

The DVB-S to DVB-S2 upgrade process

The conversion process from DVB-S to DVB-S2 is expected to take about 15 years -- probably in sync with the coming of HDTV. DVB-S has proven to be a well designed and flexible standard. This thus makes the upgrade process take longer for those delivering programming.

Tele2 and DVB-T

[ClickPress, Thu Jun 07 2007] Anevia, French designer of the Flamingo DVB-to-IP Gateways and the Toucan VOD/nPVR servers and Digital Access, the Swedish-based broadband networks equipment provider, today announced that they have been selected by Swedish operator Tele2.
